It is well known for its networking opportunities, making it an enriching education experience for students.

Bachelor’s degrees are typically completed within 3 years and equivalent to 180 ECTS.

Education Model

Higher education in Belgium focuses on teaching, research and service to the moment. You can expect to be involved in plenty of research during your studies with support from expert professors, where you will have opportunities to create and test your ideas in modern laboratories.

Depending on the region you study in, you can expect courses to be taught in either Dutch or French, however there are English-taught courses also available.

Application Process

You will be expected to provide some of the following documents: proof of identification, upper secondary qualifications, completed application form, TOEFL or IELTS for English-taught programmes or French or Dutch proficiency if you are applying for courses taught in these languages.

Applications are submitted directly to universities through their own website and online application system so it is important to check what information they will need before applying.

This site is run by a company that supports university applications and whilst its university database is not exhaustive, within the application requirements tab on each university profile they have the average IB scores accepted and where available the application success rate.
They also have average living costs for the area, rankings overviews and some scholarship information.
Be aware that they list programs in all languages, not just English and the IB scores and success rate percentages are averages across the whole institution. However, they are a good indicator if the university does not publish more detailed information.

Cost white.png

Costs

Tuition fees are based on numerous factors including: nationality, institution, and the region of Belgium. However generally, EU/EEA students can expect lower tuition fees. As universities set their own fees, where fees are higher, this could indicate that the programme is more specialised or there may be scholarships available. Private universities, like many across the world, tend to be higher in their tuition fees, so you are advised to check with each individual institution.

For universities in the Flemish Region of Belgium, you can expect tuition fees to cost around 940 EUR for EU students and around 940-6,000 EUR for international students. You will also need to register for a credit or exam contract which will cost between 111-245 EUR.

For universities in the Wallonia Region of Belgium, you can expect tuition fees to cost no more than 835 EUR per year for EU students and 2,505 EUR for international students. If you are an international student, you may be exempt from paying international fee rates, please see https://www.studyinbelgium.be/en/studying-french-speaking-belgium-registration-fees for further information. Tuition fees do depend on the programme you wish to study so you are advised to check with individual institutions.

You can expect accommodation to cost around 200-1000 EUR per month depending on the region you live in. Monthly transport can be as cheap as 20 EUR per month with a student discount, and you will need to budget for other living costs such as food, study materials and social activities. Overall you should budget between between 370-600 EUR per month for these extra living costs.
