About the Taster Lecture

Join this taster lecture to explore whether materials science and engineering is the right course for you. Throughout the session you will learn what materials science is, specifically using the turbine engine as an example. You will learn about its properties, alloy design, structure, and atomic length scale.


  • 4pm: Log in and get comfortable

  • 4.05pm: Interactive mini lecture

  • 4.50pm: Mini practical

  • 5.05pm: Introduction to the department, courses and examples of top careers after graduating 

  • 5.15pm: Q&A session with current undergraduate students

  • 5.25pm: Closing remarks and next steps


Who is this taster lecture suitable for?

Students in IB1 and IB2 who are interested in studying Materials Science and Engineering at university.
