Medicinal chemistry - Analysing and modelling aspirin | Virtual Taster Lecture | 22 Mar 4pm GMT

Chemistry taster session

This taster session gives A Level/IB HL chemists a taste of what it’s like to study Chemistry at university.

When: Tuesday 22 March 2022, 4:00pm - 5:45pm

Age group: Year 12/IB1

Special requirements: Predicted A Level - B/ IB HL 6 in Chemistry or BTEC - DDD in science including specific Chemistry units

Chemists use lots of clever tools to test and analyse their samples. In this online interactive session, Dr Jo Buckley (Education Coordinator for the Royal Society of Chemistry) will explore how we can use infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry to understand the structure of pharmaceutical molecules. You'll also discuss some novel (and surprising) everyday uses of spectroscopy.

There will also be a chance for you to find out more about being a chemistry student at The University of Sheffield, and where a degree in chemistry can take you. You will hear from some of our current students, a careers guide, and a member of our admissions team, who will all be on hand to answer any questions you might have about studying chemistry at university.
