This taster session gives you an insight into studying Ophthalmology and Orthoptics at university.
We welcome you to join our Orthoptic taster session.
At this session we will provide you with information on what the role of an Orthoptist is and an overview of the Orthoptics programme at the University of Sheffield. We will then deliver a micro-teaching session titled: The Eyes and Orthoptics: An overview. This session is designed to give you an idea of the subject matter and experience a university grade lecture.
The aims of this session are:
To provide a basic introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the eyes
To introduce some simple ocular terminology
To consider what is ‘normal’ regarding the use of the two eyes -
To examine the consequences of strabismus
Following this there will be a short quiz and a Q&A session where you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Please be advised that bookings for all taster sessions will close at 10am the day before the session, or earlier if the session becomes fully-booked. We therefore recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.
