TACKLING THE GENDER IMBALANCE: Girls into Electronics

We want to let you know about a series of events this summer from the UKESF called Girls Into Electronics. Girls into Electronics includes a one-day visit to Southampton University to see the Electronics Department. Participants will find out more about Electronics and learn about studying the subject at university, as well as hearing from female graduate engineers working in the Electronics sector. There will be also be a practical session and participants will receive a free Insight into Electronics kit to their use after the event.

This course is aimed at female sixth formers (IB1) but it would be suitable for PIB pupils thinking about taking STEM subjects. During the in-person day, attendees will experience a sample lecture from a senior academic, input from current students, a department tour, a Q&A with a UKESF Scholar and an introduction to microcontrollers. This introduction relates to the Grove Beginners’ Kit, including Arduino, which participants are provided with and is theirs to keep (find out more about the kit on our Insight into Electronics page). Follow-up online sessions will guide participants through further practical activities with the microcontrollers.

Booking the course costs just £25 to cover administrative fees, as attendance of this high-value course is fully sponsored by CSA Catapult.
