Hampshire College
Hampshire College is a small liberal arts college located in Amherst, Massachusetts that has been at the forefront of progressive education innovation in the United States for over 50 years.
About the institution
Every Hampshire student designs a customized program of study in close collaboration with faculty advisors. In their final year, students complete a comprehensive project that can take any number of forms (e.g. a performance, research study, or business start-up) to culminate their studies.
Classes are small and discussion-focused, and students are given ample opportunities to gain hands-on experience through internships, independent study programs, and field research semesters.
Students also have access to the vast resources of the Five College Consortium: over 5,000 classes and nearly 1,000 student organizations and club sports teams to choose from every semester.
Hampshire is one of the most environmentally sustainable colleges in the U.S., with a large on-campus farm and solar arrays that are able to meet 100% of its energy needs.
