University of Sussex

Situated in the iconic coastal city of Brighton, Sussex offers a world-class education, real-world employability and an unforgettable student experience.

About the institution

Research-driven and committed to academic excellence, student experience and employability, the University of Sussex delivers a transformative, high-quality education that nurtures students’ potential.

Ranked joint 29th out of 103 UK institutions in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023, Sussex is renowned for its interdisciplinary teaching and research excellence. Noted for a culture that facilitates, recognises and rewards excellent teaching (Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework 2019), Sussex has had three Nobel Prize winners on its staff and is home to world-leading research centres, including the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and the University of Sussex Business School’s Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU).

Sussex has had an international perspective to its academic activities and its outlook from its foundation. It welcomes students to join a diverse and vibrant community of over 150 nationalities, while a competitive range of scholarships draw students from across the globe.

Employability is at the heart of a Sussex education. Work placements allow undergraduate students gain industry skills and develop their professional networks; a dedicated Careers and Employability Centre supports students in maximising employment potential, while course content equips students for a competitive jobs market.

Sussex’s distinctive and spacious campus, surrounded by a national park, contains an array of modern teaching and study facilities and lively social venues. The University continues to invest heavily in its infrastructure, with a state-of-the-art student village and a new student centre opened recently.

Sussex is less than a ten-minute train ride from the centre of the sunny coastal city of Brighton, an exciting and welcoming city. The University is just an hour away from London with excellent links to Gatwick, a major international airport.
