About the Art Exhibition
We invite you to this temporary art exhibition that will bring together works created by people on death row around the world, as well as international artists and exonerees. Art has long been a tool for individuals to explore, process, and communicate complex emotional and psychological experiences. For those on death row, art can offer a unique form of expression. We invite you to witness the transformative power of art as a tool for reflection and self-exploration, as well as for raising awareness of the inhumanity and injustice of capital punishment regimes the world over. Explore paintings, drawings, poetry, and music, all created in the most challenging of circumstances.
Opening night event:
As part of the exhibition we will host an opening event on Saturday 6th May. The event will take place in the Oakeshott room at Lincoln College, Oxford, from 5:30pm. You will have the opportunity to explore the artwork on arrival. After this, you will have the opportunity to hear from professional photographer, Toshi Kazama; co-founder and co-executive director of the Death Penalty Project, Parvais Jabbar; professor of Criminology at the University of Oxford and director of the Death Penalty Research Unit, Carolyn Hoyle; and death row exoneree and founder of Crime Si Poa, Peter Ouko.
