Medicine Virtual Work Experience


Applications are now open for our Medicine Virtual Work Experience. This programme is open to all students from Year 10 (the year before Pre-IB) upwards however there are places set aside for students who meet 2 widening participation criteria. The criteria are:

  • First generation applicant to Higher Education

  • Parents, guardian or self in receipt of a means tested benefit

  • Young people looked after by a Local Authority or you have been in care or looked after for three months or more

  • In receipt of 16-19 bursary or similar grant

  • Resident in an area with a postcode which falls within the lowest 20% of the IMD (Index of Multiple Deprivation), or a member of a travelling family.

  • In receipt of free school meals at any time during Years 10-13 (normally for a minimum period of at least one school term/2 months.)

  • Eligible for the UCAT Bursary

  • Participation in a recognised outreach or widening participation programme

The Work Experience takes plan on Monday 22nd, Tuesday 23rd, Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th August. Sessions run from 9am-3pm daily and you must be available for all of them in order to participate. The timetable is being finalised at the moment, but may include the following:

  • Operating Theatre

  • Ward Rounds

  • WISH Lab

  • Apprenticeship Opportunities

  • Opportunity to speak to current medical students

  • Opportunities to speak with a number of clinicians representing Pharmacy, Histopathology, Cardiac Physiology more TBC
